Craft baking underpins everything we do. From the moment we had this crazy idea we agreed on one huge principle which is non negotiable - Manor Made Cornwall has to bake everything - no short cuts, no cutting corners.
Crazy? Mad? Or just driven by strong principles?
We are both avid/obsessed cook book readers; the Magnolia Bakery book is one we turn to regularly and one we take a lot from. Established in 1996 the bakery still works on the principle that everything is cooked fresh.
For us this is important to ensure the quality of the product, sometimes this means we run out. Some days on the beach our popular sausage rolls are gone by 11am; and frustrating as it is we have to wait until we bake the next batch to get selling.
It also means we have to work long hours to keep up with demand; which when we are supplying the Beach Bakery it is so hard to predict as no two days are the same.
Fundamentally, we only want to produce things we love and things we are proud to say Manor Made Cornwall made. Now, don’t get us wrong, this has resulted in some very long nights and far too many tears as we are perfectionists and will keep going until it is right! By far the worst ‘baking incident’ to date has been our quest to perfect our Afternoon Tea macarons. It took two days and almost 300 macarons to get it right…but we got there in the end!
